Man Shot While Driving on I-57 on South Side

A male was shot early Saturday while driving on I-57 on the South Side.

The male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot at about 3:50 a.m. while driving northbound on I-57 between 99th and Halsted, Illinois State Police Trooper Tom Kelly said.

The incident happened after a driver appeared to cut off another driver near 99th Street. Police think it may have been a road rage incident, but they are still investigating a motive and will not confirm.

The man who was shot managed to drive onto the ramp off the expressway at Halsted. There were at least four bullet holes in his car.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, and he is in stable condition.

The expressway has been reopened after all northbound lanes were closed to traffic between 99th and Halsted while state police investigated.
