Chicago Goes Redneck for Charity

MS Society holds "Redneck Olympics"

Alright, Chicago, so we missed out on hosting the Olympic Games. But we may have the next best thing: redneck sports!

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is hosting a fundraiser called the Redneck Games this weekend that includes some unique competitions and fun prizes, reports the Chicago Reader.

So can Chicagoans handle tractor pulls and big-truck mud racing?

Probably not. That's why, instead, the MS Society will host beer pong, a shopping cart race, a best mullet contest, a watermelon seed-spitting contest, and more.

"We feel it's a fun way to get together and compete in some fun activities and events with a silly theme to raise money for MS," Laura Canonaco, vice-president of marketing and community engagement, told the Chicago Reader.

Besides, we city folk could use a little country now and then.

The fundraiser will be held this Saturday, July 31, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Weeds (1555 N Dayton), according to the Chicago Reader. There's a $30 cover, and a portion of proceeds go to the organization.
