Habitual shoppers might be keeping their addiction on the DL this year, with conspicuous capitalism currently out of fashion. However, it's time to publicize your purchasing prowess once again now that Akira has teamed up with local charities to donate proceeds from your dirty little habit.
The local fashion powerhouse has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago as its beneficiary for purchases made on Sunday, Nov. 30 from 7-9PM at its Bucktown women's store. Akira will donate 10 percent from all sales to the charitable organization. There will also be silent and live auctions, a DJ, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres to put you in the giving (and acquiring) spirit.
On Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 6-9PM, the Auxiliary Board of the Lyric Opera House will host its "Holiday Shopping Extravaganza" at Akira, with 15 percent of purchases going toward the Lyric Opera House. This is a swanky, black-tie affair, with a silent auction and complimentary cocktails.
So, whether you're buying presents for yourself or for someone else, you're still a giving person. Tell your Shopaholics Anonymous group to back off.
