Des Plaines Band to Open for Kid Rock, Bon Jovi

A suburban band has landed its biggest gig yet, beating out hundreds of other groups to open for Kid Rock and Bon Jovi.

Almost 600 bands competed in the Bon Jovi Wanted: A SuperBAND Tonight contest, but Des Plaines' own 7th Heaven got the nod to open "The Circle Tour" at Soldier Field on July 30.

The group credits their loyal fans for their success in the competition.

"The fans ran with it," says lead guitarist Richie Hofherr.  "They all started voting and voting so well they voted us right to number one."

It was their latest song titled "Better This Way," posted online, that got them voted to the number one spot.

"I got goose bumps when I heard we finally go it," said bass guitarist Mark Kennetz. "Not too many say they played Soldier Field."

But it's been a long time coming from the group, which over the last 25 years has built up a huge international fan base.  The band has become so popular that they're able to make a decent living doing what they love and performing some 250 live shows every year.

7th Heaven will be on 101.9 FM the Mix's Party in the Park show on July 15 where they'll be offering fans a chance to win tickets to see the show at Soldier Field.
