Is Bret Michaels heading back to work too soon with his plans to compete on NBC's Sunday night finale of "Celebrity Apprentice"?

A source claimed to Access Hollywood on Friday that Bret is acting against doctor's orders with his anticipated "Apprentice" return – however, the star is determined to come and, not only that, expects to win.

Bret was recently hospitalized for the third time in recent weeks, this time for a "warning stroke," upon which a hole in his heart was discovered. He is currently receiving outpatient care and plans to arrive in New York City by plane on Saturday.

However, a rep for the star told Access on Friday that the rocker isn't taking "any undue risks."

"Bret is a very passionate person and refuses to live his life curled up in a ball wondering if or when something else might happen," the rep said. "Being a type 1 diabetic, he has lived with struggles and complications since he was 6 years old, but he always tries to maintain positive attitude and seldom lets things get him down… these recent medical complications have been tough but he wants to continue to live his life, enjoy every day and get back on the road."

The rep added that Bret's heart condition, a Patent Foramen Ovale, is "operable and treatable," and the rocker is "taking two additional injections daily of a blood thinner" as part of his care.

"As his friends and staff we are all making sure that he is not taking any [undue] risks and we are certainly taking every precaution possible to insure his health and well being," the rep said. "If and when something else occurs we will deal with it at that time."

Bret's physician, Dr. Joseph Zambraski, said in a separate statement to Access that Bret was "determined to get healthy."

"I realize Bret wants to make a full recovery so that he can be active with his family, attend the finale of 'Celebrity Apprentice,' and get back on the road to continue making music," he said in the statement. "However, Bret's brain and body are not yet 100 percent, especially with this recent episode."

He did not state either way if he had advised Bret on his potential "Apprentice" participation.

Earlier in the week, Bret's "Apprentice" competition, Holly Robinson Peete, told Access' Tony Potts that Bret's health was her priority.

"In the end, it's a show and health is more important than anything," she said.
