Reps. Joe Walsh and Randy Hultgren, who are running against each other in next March’s 14th District Republican primary, will be appearing together in public on Dec. 9.
It’s not a debate, though. It’s a fundraiser.
The rival congressmen will both address a $75-a-person reception for the One Nation Under God Foundation, a non-profit that advocates for conservative causes. They’ll be speaking on “pro-family issues in Washington,” according to an event organizer. The event starts at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Willowbrook.
Walsh currently represents the 8th District. He announced his intra-party challenge to Hultgren after Democrats in Springfield approved a new congressional map that makes his district inhospitable to a Republican.
Walsh and Hultgren are the two most conservative members of Illinois’s congressional delegation, and they’ll be addressing a conservative audience. While the two men won’t be confronting each other directly, they’ll both be competing for the crowd’s approval, leaning so far right their shoulders touch the floor.
