Rahm Emanuel is no stranger to nicknames, some which are too vulgar to appear on our blog, but today he shared the wealth and gave a nickname to the newest member on his staff.
"I'm proud to welcome Dr. Barbara Byrd-Bennett, known to all of us as B3," said Emanuel during a press conference where he announce she would act as the new Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools.
Emanuel explained that the nickname was easier to say than Byrd-Bennett's full name.
Barbara Byrd-Bennett can be a bit of a tongue twister when said fast and in repetition. Emanuel even struggled with her full name during the press conference. He admits that B3 may take a while to catch on.
"It took me awhile, but then I understood," Emanuel explained. "At first I thought it was a vitamin that everyone was talking about that I needed."
She may not have been a vitamin, but she was definitely someone the mayor needed. Early Friday morning Jean-Claude Brizard, referred to as "JC" by Emanuel, announced his resignation.
During the press conference, Emanuel said JC would stick around to help B3 transition into the new position.
