After his stellar performance at the 2019 World Championships, prospect Dominik Kubalík has agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Kubalík, who scored six goals and dished out six assists in 10 tournament games for the Czech Republic, will be paid $925,000 under the terms of the deal, the Blackhawks announced in a press release.

The forward was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings in January, and went on a tear in the Swiss League, with 25 goals and 32 assists during the 2018-19 season.

Odds are that Kubalík will get a chance to compete for a roster spot on next year’s Blackhawks squad. Players like Dylan Sikura, Alexandre Fortin, Mackenzie Entwistle, and Philipp Kurashev will also likely be competing for roster spots, and Kubalík will aim to crack the top-nine forward group that the Blackhawks are looking to bolster after a strong 2018-19 campaign.

According to CapFriendly, the Blackhawks have just under $20 million in salary cap space for the coming season, with 18 players on the roster. They will still need to negotiate new contracts for Brendan Perlini, David Kampf, and Gustav Forsling, and will likely add depth pieces at both goaltender and on their blue line, depending on what they do with the third overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
