Scott Darling #33 of the Carolina Hurricanes takes a break during a stop in play in the second period of a game against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on November 03, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Golden Knights defeated the Hurricanes 3-0.

Former Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling has been placed on waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes, according to multiple reports.

According to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, if Darling clears waivers, he will report to the team’s AHL affiliate in Charlotte.

It’s been rough sailing for Darling ever since he signed a four year deal with the Hurricanes prior to last season. In seven games this season, Darling has a 2-4-1 record and a 3.14 goals against average, and he has been consistently outplayed by Curtis McElhinney and Petr Mrazek.

Darling is in the second year of a deal that is paying him an average of $4.15 million per season. If he is sent to the AHL, he will still count for a little over $3 million against Carolina’s salary cap number, but that shouldn’t be a problem, as the team has the lowest payroll in the NHL this season.
