Kyle Long Makes Big Donation to Puerto Rico Relief Efforts

Chicago Bears lineman Kyle Long may not have played on Sunday, but he still managed to score a touchdown as he made a big donation to hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

Posting to his Twitter account, Long announced that he had donated $50,000 to Direct Relief, a charity organization that has been working in Puerto Rico after the devastating effects of Hurricane Maria ravaged the island last month:

“The recent devastation in Puerto Rico has left so many people looking for answers, and I think it is important to help those who in some situations cannot help themselves,” Long said. “I know this donation won’t fully restore Puerto Rico, but I believe in momentum and I am following the lead of many others.”

Long isn’t the only Chicago athlete to have made an effort to help Puerto Rico residents. Cubs catcher Rene Rivera spearheaded a donation drive along with his wife that has raised over $30,000 on GoFundMe. The Cubs themselves also donated money from their 50/50 raffle at Saturday’s game, and helped pack a plane with supplies for the hurricane-ravaged island.
