Chuck Pagano Says He Doesn't Want to be an NFL Head Coach Again

The Chicago Bears got to introduce new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano on Thursday morning, and in an entertaining press conference, the new coach addressed the chances that he could find his way back into the head coaching ranks.

Pagano, who most recently was head coach of the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2017, said that he has no interest in being the head man again, and said he would be content just to coach defense for the Bears.

“I’m not, I’ve done it,” Pagano said. “I’m motivated to just help coach Matt Nagy be successful. That’s my motivation, to be the best I can be for this organization, for the McCaskey family, for coach Nagy and for these players.”

Several Bears assistants have left to become head coaches elsewhere, including former offensive coordinator Adam Gase, who has now coached the Miami Dolphins and is currently the head coach of the New York Jets. Former Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, whom Pagano is replacing, is now the head coach of the Denver Broncos.
