Weekend Triathlon to Likely Tie Up Traffic

As the 29th Annual Life Time Chicago Triathlon comes to Chicago this weekend, the event is expected to affect traffic in the city with closures and congestion.

The Life Time Chicago Triathlon has announced that Columbus Drive will be closed from Balbo Drive South to Roosevelt Rd. on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. 

The race will also bring lane closures on Lake Shore Drive which include Northbound Lake Shore Drive from Monroe St. to Hollywood Ave. and Southbound from Hollywood Ave. to Randolph St. will be affected. Inner southbound and northbound Lake Shore Drive Lanes will also be closed Sunday from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Randolph Street’s down ramp will be closed as well from 4 p.m. on Saturday to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Lake Shore Drive traffic congestion is expected along Monroe Harbor on Sunday from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.  as large spectator crowds gather to watch the race.

Runners will take to the footpaths south of Monroe Harbor and crossing Waldron Drive, one-half mile past McCormick Place and returning past Shedd Aquarium, continuing west via the Lake Shore Drive underpass to Columbus Drive on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Congestion in Grant Park is expected on Columbus Drive, north of Balbo from Sunday 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.
