Target has picked an opening date for its new State Street location.
The two-floor, 124,000-square-foot store opens July 29 in the old Carson Pirie Scott & Co. building at 1 S. State St., according to Crain's Chicago Business.
The store will be roughly the size of most other Chicago stores and will include a pharmacy, groceries, apparel, accessories, toys, sporting goods and electronics spread across two floors. The first floor also will include a Pret a Manger eatery, Crain's reports.
Differences from suburban stores include smaller checkout lanes and carts, as well as no dedicated or discounted parking. There will be a loading zone on Madison Street, though.
Designers toned down the store's traditional red coloring with white-and-gray tones. Architects also say the store's design gave a nod to the building's history.
The discount chain had been eying the historic Loop space for more than a year before announcing its lease early last year.
