It doesn't happen often, but many of the Diddy fans who showed up to the rapper's Excalibur/Vision nightclub appearance Friday night walked away disappointed.
Sean "Diddy" Combs was in town to promote his new music and to flack Ciroc vodka. The Diddy party was scheduled for Excalibur, with VIP tickets going for $50 a pop. We've confirmed that Diddy was shuttled through a back door around midnight and hung out in the VIP section for a bit, but many fans believed that the promoter's Web site promised a Diddy performance when it mentioned VIP seating on the same "level of the main performances." But that never materialized. In fact, a group of photographers and a TV crew weren't even told he was there, and were kept waiting until 3 a.m., long after he'd left. Turns out Diddy had other places to be, also making surprise appearances at Crimson Lounge and at Lincoln Park's Dream. Diddy also did a series of puff piece press interviews earlier in the day at the Hard Rock Hotel, promoted as a chance for the legendary partier to give tips on entertaining for the holidays. Well, Mr. Combs, in Chicago, this is what we like to call a party foul. A legal representive for the promotion company, Fam Creations, contacted NBC and claims that they never promoted or promised a Diddy performance.
Then it was time for some chillaxing for Michael Jordan and former Chicago Bear and Super Bowl XX MVP, Richard Dent, who indulged in some lollipop wings and pork wings while putting back a few Heinekens at hotspot District Bar while watching some Monday night football.
The whole city was laughing this weekend thanks to appearances by the likes of Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Martin Short and others, who were all in town for Second City's 50th Anniversary. You didn't have to look far to find star sights if you were hanging out in Old Town, like Jim Belushi and his son getting a trim at State Street Barbers, but these legitimate legends did leave the neighborhood. River North hot spot Hub 51 was the scene for a Sunday brunch, that attracted the likes of Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard, Catherine O'Hara -- and again, too many stars to mention. Hope nobody spit up their mimosas from laughing too hard.
Frankie Delgado hosted a party at Manor Friday night, and Jeremih (“Birthday Sex”) took over the bar Saturday night with a live performance. We wonder how his mom feels about him being known for a song titled “Birthday Sex”….
Seth McFarlane (creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show) was seen wining, dining and karaoke-ing at an event in his honor at The James Chicago hotel on Tuesday. But he didn’t dress up for the occasion. Dude sported jeans to the appearance.
On Thursday, America’s Next Top Model Season 8 winner Jaslene Gonzalez was at Lumen, boozing it up with her mom and bro with some Belvedere. Keeping it in the family – we like that.
