The final credits are rolling for an Old Town movie theatre.

AMC Piper's Alley will shut its doors for good after Thursdays showings.

AMC officials released the following statement concerning the closure:

"AMC continually upgrades the quality of our theatre circuit by adding new screens and by disposing of older screens through closures and sales. We do, however, look at our theatres on an individual basis. Piper’s Alley has been identified as a theatre that no longer competes effectively in the marketplace and will close at the end of business today."

The theatre, which has four screens and is located directly behind The Second City, first opened 20 years ago and specialized in showing independent films.
