A Homer Glen woman's pig is recovering after being shot in the neck the day before Thanksgiving, in what the pet owner believes was someones attempt to have a free meal.

"I think someone was looking for Thanksgiving dinner," Laura Konow, the pig's owner, said.

Konow said she heard a shot in the afternoon Nov. 23, but didn't think anything of it as hunters are common in the nature preserve near her home.

When Sweetie, the Vietnamese potbellied pig, returned home, Konow noticed the pig had been shot in the neck, and she drove her to the Colonial Animal Hospital in Homer Glen.

"They hit her in the right spot not to kill her," said Konow. "It was her lucky day."

The veterinarian, Debra Anello, said the bullet passed right through the top of the pig's neck, only severing two muscles.

Sweetie returned to her home Nov. 25. Will County sheriff's police made a report, but the pig's shooter is still unknown.
