High School Students Create “Snow Day” App

Snow Day Calculator is available for Android and iOS

Wish there was a way to predict when a "snow day" will occur?

Three northern Illinois teenagers have created a phone app -- the Snow Day Calculator -- that helps do just that and it's been getting some buzz.

Calvin Breseman, Tanishq Dubey and Gustavo Farias are seniors at Prairie Ridge High School in Crystal Lake. Breseman said that everyone loves a snow day, so they came up with an idea for an algorithm and decided to make the free app.

The cellphone application, published by Boreas Applications, has been downloaded more than 1,000 times in a week nationwide, The Daily Chronicle of DeKalb reported Monday.

The app gives the user the chance of snow based on location. The students say they're working on improvements.
