Team USA is one step closer to a championship, and Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is a big reason why.
Kane notched a pair of goals as Team USA knocked off the Czech Republic by a score of 3-2 to advance to the semifinals of the IIHF Men’s World Championships.
Kane, who now has eight goals and 11 assists in the tournament, has already set an American record for most points in a single tournament, and will be looking to add more as his team advanced to the next round.
He leads all scorers in the tournament, edging ahead of Sebastian Aho and Connor McDavid thanks to the goals.
The winger got the scoring started about halfway through the first period, as he scored 10:36 into the contest to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead. After the Czech team tied the game with two goals in the second period, Kane struck again early in the third, as he put home a feed from Derek Ryan to give the U.S. a 3-2 advantage.
Starting goaltender Keith Kinkaid made sure the lead stuck, and the U.S. advanced as they try to keep their hopes of winning a first ever title in the men’s world championships.
Kane’s Blackhawks teammates were held off the scoresheet, as Alex DeBrincat and Connor Murphy were both held without a point in the contest.

The American squad will take on the winner of the Sweden vs. Latvia game, which will take place later Thursday afternoon. The Canadian squad, which beat Russia, will take on the winner of the Finland vs. Switzerland contest.
