He's one of the most explosive and exciting players in the NFL, which is why more than a few eyebrows were raised Friday when rumors were raised that Devin Hester could be headed away from the Bears.
On one hand, it's not terribly surprising -- wild trade rumors and the draft go hand-in-hand.
But this one is particularly interesting, because of the Bears' overwhelming need for an established wide receiver. Hester, a dangerous player whenever he has the ball in his hands, remains somewhat of a project at receiver after only one full season at the position after switching over from defense.
And now that Jay Cutler is in the fold, the need for a marquee receiver is magnified.
For the record, the rumor had Hester and perhaps the Bears' second-round pick, No. 48 overall, headed to the Arizona Cardinals for disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin. The Cardinals have reportedly lowered their asking price for Boldin, the NBC 5 sports team reported.
"I don't want draft a receiver and get you off my back for a couple of months and then find out he's just a vanilla cone. That's not the goal. We want to come out and have some sprinkles or something, a little twist," Bears GM Jerry Angelo said.
Fellow NBCChicago.com writer Maggie Hendricks says the marquee receivers in the draft, Jeremy Maclin and Michael Crabtree, won't be around for the Bears to pick, but they might have a shot at Georgia's Mohammed Massaquoi.
