Derrick Rose Says He Has Double Vision After Surgery

"With one eye open, I think I could play pretty good," he said

Derrick Rose was optimistic but cautious when it came to talking about his return to the court after surgery.

While he didn’t rule out a debut on opening night, he did reveal that he has double vision when he opens both of his eyes.

“I can’t open my other eye,” Rose said Thursday. “That’s when I get double vision. But with one eye open, I think I could play pretty good.”

Rose said he hasn’t had much pain since undergoing orbital bone surgery two weeks ago.

“I haven't had no pain since the first couple days after the surgery,” Rose said. “After that, it's just getting it open, waiting for my eye to get right in the center, because it's a little bit higher than the other eye right now.”

The team said last week that Rose was expected to “resume basketball activities within two weeks” of the surgery.

The Bulls guard was hit in the face by an elbow during the team's first practice and was taken to Rush University Medical Center where he later had surgery.

Rose was seen shooting on the court during a team practice Thursday with a mask covering his face.

It remains unclear when Rose will be fully ready to play again, but he’s happy about at least one thing when it came to this injury.

“I’m happy it’s not my knees,” he said.
