Report: Cubs Plan on Hosting Watch Party for NL Wild Card Game

It took 101 years for the Chicago Cubs to add video boards to Wrigley Field, and the team is continuing to take full advantage as they will reportedly host a viewing party for the National League Wild Card Game.

The game, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 7, will most likely take place in Pittsburgh, although there is still an outside shot that the Cubs could overtake the Pirates in the standings and get the game at Wrigley. Even if that doesn’t come to pass and the Cubs do have to hit the road to the Steel City, fans will still get an opportunity to watch the game at the Friendly Confines.

According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, the Cubs plan on selling tickets to Wrigley so that fans can watch the game on the video boards in left and right field. The plan has yet to be approved by Major League Baseball, but all proceeds would go to charity if the go-ahead is given.

If the Cubs do end up hosting the event, it wouldn’t be the first time that they’ve put the screens to good use: the team showed Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on the screens during a rain delay earlier this season, and played a goal horn when the Chicago Blackhawks scored.
