"The course for me was very nice," she said. "It was a flat course, sometimes it's windy, but that is part of competition."

Kiplagat returns this year to defend her title. Her personal best marathon time, 2:19:44, dates from the 2011 Berlin Marathon. Kiplagat is the 2010 IAAF World Half Marathon champion and returned to race in Berlin in 2013, again securing a first-place title.
