GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump will return to Illinois Monday for a campaign event, but this time he's avoiding Chicago.
Trump is scheduled to headline a rally in Springfield on Monday night ahead of the next Republican debate in Milwaukee on Tuesday. The event is free, but tickets are required to attend. It will take place at the Prairie Capital Convention Center at 7 p.m., and doors will open at 5 p.m.
A group of activists in Illinois have planned a "Dump Trump" rally in Springfield at 6 p.m. to protest Trump's visit to Illinois. The activists come from organizations such as Occupy Springfield, the College Democrats of Illinois State University and the Immigrant Rights Movement.
The Springfield event will be Trump's first major campaign event in Illinois since he announced his candidacy over the summer.
Trump last appeared at an event in Chicago in June when he spoke at the City Club of Chicago and addressed immigration and his recently severed ties with NBC.
The Republican debate in Milwaukee, which is hosted by FOX Business News and the Wall Street Journal, will begin at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Milwaukee Theatre.
After the debate, Trump will head to New Hampshire and then back to Iowa by the end of the week for several more campaign events.
