Cops Nab Blago Witness

Onetime state official charged with felony

A onetime state official and key witness in the Blago trial was arrested Friday afternoon for shoplifting.

Rajinder Bedi, 58, was charged with one count of Felony Retail Theft Shoplifting.  Bedi was observed by store security at a Home Depot, detained and turned over to Chicago Police.

The stolen items valued over $150, which categorizes the crime as a felony, according to Chicago Police.

Bedi testified against former Governor Rod Blagojevich at his summer trial.  Bedi claimed that he attended a meeting with Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. and businessman Raghu Nayak in October of 2008.  At the meeting, Bedi said Nayak proposed raising a million dollars for Blagojevich, in exchange for Jackson's appointment to President Obama's former Senate Seat.

Bedi is due in court Saturday.
