Call it another one of Vice President Joe Biden's gaffes.
The Delaware Democrat spent the Chicago leg of his three-state fund raising trip Thursday telling locals how President Barack Obama could possibly lose the election in November -- not how he could win it.
“I don’t think we’ll be beaten by those candidates," Biden said. "I think we’ll be beaten -- if we are – by something happening in the Eurozone or something happening in the Gulf, which could be difficult for us, or this barrage of SuperPAC money. But even with that I feel good."
Biden snuck into town Thursday evening for a fundraiser at the Lincoln Park home of a real estate developer Elzie Higginbottom. He arrived in Chicago from Milwaukee and headed for Wilmington, Del., afterward.
He spent part of his talk in Lincoln Park about Obama's presidency accomplishments, from going after Osama bin Laden to Obama’s “ramrod” backbone in times of economic change.
But Biden veered off course of his rally speech and pointed out how Republicans could raise between $400 million and $800 million in SuperPAC dollars. The money would be used to “carpet-bomb” Obama, he said.
Biden recovered, though. “We’re going to win this election,” he said.
He called Obama the best candidate and thanked supporters.
“We can put together the best ground game that ever has occurred in the history of American politics,” he said.
