A judge on Friday ruled that a former manager of a famous New Jersey diner who is charged with a murder-for-hire plot can remain out on bail.

The ruling by state Superior Court Judge Donald Volkert denied a motion by the state to revoke bail for Georgios Spyropoulos. Prosecutors say Spyropoulos has violated some conditions of his bail.

Spyropoulos was released on $600,000 bail and is under home confinement but is allowed out for doctor's visits, religious services or lawyer conferences. The Record reported prosecutors contend Spyropoulos has eaten at restaurants a few times and brought a Tick Tock Diner employee to see a lawyer on an unrelated matter.

At Friday's hearing, Volkert said the violations may have been partly due to a misunderstanding. He broadened the bail conditions to include a prohibition on contact with any potential witnesses, which could include anyone who works at the diner.

Spyropoulos was arrested in April and has been indicted on attempted murder and other charges. Prosecutors alleged he asked an undercover state trooper posing as a hit man to kill his uncle, Alexandros Sgourdos, and to get rid of the body. Sgourdos co-owns the Tick Tock diners in Clifton, where Spyropoulos is manager, and Manhattan.

The classic chrome diner is considered a landmark to people who drive Route 3 in Clifton and has been featured on Guy Fieri's Food Network show, "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives."
