Ten people were hospitalized -- three in critical condition -- when a van rear-ended a CTA bus in the South Side Chatham neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

An earlier report that someone had died in the crash was not confirmed.

The crash at 83rd Street and Cottage Grove Avenue was reported about 4:40 p.m, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

Ten people were injured in the crash, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.  Three people were taken in critical condition -- two to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and one to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

From TransitChicago.com:

Southbound #4 Cottage Grove buses are temporarily rerouted via Cottage Grove, 83rd, King Drive, 87th, and Cottage Grove, due to street blockage.  Northbound buses are not affected.
