Two Injured in Rogers Park Fire

The fire was in one apartment of a three-story building at 1915 W. Granville Ave., authorities said

Two people were transported to St. Francis Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a fire at a Rogers Park apartment building.

One of the victims, described by the fire department as an elderly woman, was reportedly in critical condition. Another adult was in stable condition, authorities said.

The fire was contained to one apartment on the first floor of a three-story building at 1915 W. Granville Ave. Fire crews had to use ladders to rescue several people trapped on the upper floors, including two children and two adults.

"My wife told me, 'Wake up! Fire!' and I opened the hallway door and the smoke came inside," said Fadio Mujanovic, who was taking a nap when the fire broke out. "And I come to the balcony and I take my wife and I call "Help! Help!"

The fire displaced several families.

The fire, which started shortly after 2 p.m., was quickly put out, said Chief Kevin MacGregor. A cause has not yet been determined.
