A person was critically wounded in a police-involved shooting on the west side on Monday night.
Officers said they were responding to a call of a person with a gun near the 5300 block of West Van Buren Street. When they tried to talk to a man, he pulled a gun and pointed it at the officers, police said.
One officer fired a shot, striking the man, police said.
The man was taken in serious to critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County shortly before 8:30 p.m., officials said.
The weapon was recovered, police said.
The Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates all police-involved shootings, was on the scene, spokesman Mark Smith told the Chicago Tribune.
