Fallen Chicago Officers Honored During National Police Week

Four fallen Chicago police officers are being honored in National Police Week events in Washington, D.C., this week.

Held annually for decades, National Police Week is a series of events held in the nation's capital to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

Members of the Chicago Police Department traveled to Washington to honor Commander Paul Bauer, as well as Officers Samuel Jimenez, Eduardo Marmolejo and Conrad Gary, who all died in the line of duty in 2018.

Family members of all four officers attended a ceremony Sunday in which CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson laid a wreath and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Relatives also had an opportunity to visit the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall, where their loved ones names were added.

Three other Chicago police officers were also honored for their bravery in the November 2018 shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago, during which Jimenez was one of four people killed.

The week's main event takes place Wednesday, when a ceremony will be held at the U.S. Capitol to honor the lives of all fallen officers across the country. This year, thousands will gather to honor 33 officers from 10 different states during National Police Week.
