Man Killed, Another Wounded in Shooting in Chicago's Gold Coast Neighborhood

The two men were struck when the offender walked out of a fast food restaurant and opened fire, police said

Two men were shot, one fatally, early Sunday in the Gold Coast neighborhood on Chicago's Near North Side, according to police.

At approximately 4 a.m., police said two men, ages 20 and 30, were shot when someone walked out of a fast food restaurant in the 100 block of West Division Street and opened fire.

The 20-year-old man was fatally struck, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.

The 30-year-old man was shot in the back and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, according to police.

The shooter got into a Chevrolet Tahoe and fled the scene southbound on Clark Street, police said.

No one is in custody for the shooting and authorities continue to investigate.

"This location is well covered by video surveillance, and my office has been in contact with nearby businesses to request their full cooperation with investigators," 2nd Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins said in a statement.

"This block has been the target of a recent undercover drug investigation, initiated at my request, to curtail the increase in narcotics related activity that has been reported this year by neighbors," he said, adding, "The successful results of this undercover operation include at least 16 known offenders arrested for narcotics and robbery."
