Thousands of Illinois Sprint Customers Can Claim Refunds

Approximately 32,000 Sprint customers in Illinois will be able to get refunds

Thousands of Sprint customers in Illinois can claim part of a multi-million dollar rebate settlement being paid out by the cellular provider.

Sprint will pay $2.3 million in refunds to resolve a court case involving uncashed rebate checks, Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs announced Monday.

As part of the out-of-court settlement, Sprint will turn over the names of 32,000 Illinois residents who were eligible for, but didn’t cash rebate checks sent to them between the years of 2003 and 2011.

The rebates were typically offered as an incentive to purchase a data plan, product or service, according to the treasurer’s office.

“We are happy to resolve this issue,” said Dave Tovar, Sprint vice president. “We value our customers and have continued to invest in network enhancements in Chicago, Chicagoland, Springfield, and throughout the state over the last year in order to provide them and those switching to Sprint with an excellent network experience.”

The names will be included in the state treasurer’s unclaimed property database, according to the release, which can be searched at the treasurer’s office or at www.illinoistreasurer.gov/ICASH.
