The Chicago Cubs were ready to party no matter what on Friday as they celebrated their National League Central title, but Miguel Montero added a big jolt to the soiree as he cracked a walk-off home run in a 5-4 triumph over the Milwaukee Brewers.
After the Cubs tied the game at 4-4 in the ninth inning, Montero did the honors in the bottom of the 10th as he lifted a home run over the left field wall to give the Cubs a win and set off a raucous celebration at the Friendly Confines.
The Cubs clinched the Central Division on Thursday night after the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. The Cubs had an opportunity to wrap up the division themselves on Thursday, but they lost 5-4 to the Brewers, but the Giants picked them up and sent them to the postseason for the second consecutive season.
The Cubs won't know their playoff opponent for quite a while, but they still have some goals left to accomplish this season. The team's magic number to clinch home-field advantage in the NLDS and NLCS is currently at nine after the victory, and they also are trying to become the first Cubs team to win 100 games in a season since the 1935 campaign.
