Camera Records Men Running From Fatal Hit-an-Run

Bessie English was driving on the 2700 block of West Division Street on Sunday morning when she was hit head-on by a Honda CRV

Chicago police hope an image captured by a surveillance camera helps them give closure to the family of a woman killed in a Sunday hit-and-run crash.

The image shows two people running away from the crash on the 2700 block of West Division Street. It was there where Bessie English, 63, was driving when a tan 2010 Honda CRV crashed head-on into her 1993 Ford Escort.

"They took something special, very special, from us," said English's daughter, Deidra English. "It's a big loss. It's terrible. It's painful."

The two men seen in the surveillance image are believed to be the men who were in the Honda, which had Wisconsin license plates.

English, of the 900 block of North Waller, was taken to Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center after the 7:50 a.m. crash. She was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later, a spokesperson with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said.

English is survived by her four children, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, her daughter said.

Police say several witnesses to the crash are also visible on the surveillance video, and they're hoping someone with information will call detectives at 312-745-4521.
