Big Star Announces New Taco Shop in Wrigleyville's Hotel Zachary Development

Renowned Chicago taco shop Big Star is moving in next to Wrigley Field, according the restaurant announced on social media Thursday.

"It's official: you'll be able to enjoy our tacos, margaritas and patio vibes at our second Big Star location, opening next to Wrigley Field (!!!) in the Hotel Zachary in early 2018," the business said in its post. "Dreams do come true, folks!"

The hotel that is being built across from Wrigley Field will be named Hotel Zachary, a tip of the hat to the iconic baseball field’s architect, Zachary Taylor Davis, the developer announced earlier this month.

"The Big Star concept within the hotel will occupy two floors plus a large outdoor area with several open-air options for guests," One Off Hospitality said in a statement. "The outdoor seating will be spacious, with the same fun, relaxed vibe as the Wicker Park location."

The statement also said the menu is still in the works, but fans of the original can count on a familiar menu of Mexican fare and cocktails in the upcoming hotel location.

“We are proud to bring Hotel Zachary to the Wrigleyville neighborhood as part of our commitment to enhance the Lakeview community,” said Tom Ricketts, chairman of Hickory Street Capital, in a statement earlier this month. “With this new hotel, we look forward to paying respect to the rich and storied history of Chicago architecture, while creating a unique hotel experience for guests.”

The seven-story, 238,000-square-foot development will include a high-end restaurant and cocktail bar, as well as a McDonald’s and a Wintrust bank.

“From inception, we felt it was important to partner with Chicago-based, chef-driven, restaurant groups to curate a distinctly local experience unique to Wrigleyville,” said Eric Nordness, vice president of Hickory Street Capital, in the statement. “We feel fortunate to have partnered with passionate chef-driven restaurant operators who are at the forefront of Chicago’s culinary community.”

A site down the street on Addison will host 148 apartments, retail space and parking but is unaffiliated with the hotel development.

Hickory Street Capital, according to a press release, is a real estate development company owned by the Ricketts Family, who own the Chicago Cubs, to pursue Chicago-based real estate.
