More than 100 youth golfers will gather at Marquette Park Golf Course Saturday for the beginning of a summer-long golfing showdown.

The Chicago Park District golfers, ages six to 17, will compete in the Ryder Cup Youth Skills Challenge local qualifier, one of 55 local qualifiers in the Chicago area.

The tournament is in its 39th year and is free for participants, who receive one practice round ticket for themselves as well as a parent or guardian upon registering.

Winners from the qualifying stages of the competition will advance to one of four regional qualifiers in northern, western, far western and southern Chicago suburbs. Regional winners will then move on to the final event in September at Medinah Country Club.
