When Mother Nature takes the temperature to dangerous levels, it's important to find a safe place to stay warm.
Public spaces like museums and libraries can offer a respite from the cold, as well as something to do, but designated warming centers also provide shelter. The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services operates six warming centers during work weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. when temperatures dip below 32 degrees:
