When it comes to college drinking, Illinois apparently has a reputation for both extremes.

The state notched a school apiece on the Princeton Review's annual list of Top 20 party schools and Top 20 sober schools, released Monday.

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign grabbed No. 3 for party schools, after the University of Iowa and the University of California, while Wheaton College ranked second on the list of "stone-cold sober schools," after Brigham Young University in Utah.

Urbana-Champaign's party reputation is enhanced by a single annual event, Unofficial St. Patrick's Day— or, simply, Unofficial. It's when thousands converge for a day of drinking at parties and in bars. Local police ticket hundreds every year.

Students age 19 can enter bars in Champaign and age 18 in Urbana.

The list is determined by a nationwide survey.
