Tornado Survivors Turn to Social Media to Find Lost Pets

As survivors continue to pick up the pieces from the deadly tornadoes that ravaged Illinois Sunday, several have turned to social media in hopes of reuniting with their four-legged family members.

A Facebook page titled “Illinois Tornado Animals Lost & Found” has been the go-to spot for thousands of survivors searching for their lost pets and for those who have found pets and are searching for their owners.

The page is dedicated to finding and reuniting displaced animals in Pekin, Peoria and Washington.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));

But the page also offers pet owners a hint of hope with several posts about happy reunions.

Other stories of inspiring reunions between pets and their owners are flooding in on social media.

The "Washington IL Tornado Recovery" Facebook page said "nearly all pets being recovered by Animal Control are being reunited immediately."

Owners still searching for pets can contact Animal Control at (309) 925-3370.

In another inspiring story, Washington resident Jon Byler Dann found his dog buried alive under debris nearly 30 hours after his house was hit by the tornado.
