All Sweet Tomatoes restaurants in Illinois suddenly shut their doors Tuesday, in a move that was surprising for diners who often stop in for the chain’s well-known all-you-can-eat salad bars and buffets.
“This restaurant has been closed due to a business restructuring. All of us at Sweet Tomatoes appreciate your support over the years,” read a sign left at the entrance of one location, according to the Daily Herald.
The company confirmed Thursday its six suburban Chicago locations in Schaumburg, Lombard, Aurora, Glenview, Waukegan, and St. Charles all have been shut down.
Sweet Tomatoes’ owner and parent company, Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp., filed for bankruptcy on Monday.
A company spokesperson told the Daily Herald after the planned restructuring it will still own about 100 restaurants, many with the name Soup Plantation, which are primarily found in the western states near its San Diego, California headquarters.
