Pizza (And Beer) On a Plane

“Operation Pizza” takes flight for U.S. soldiers in Middle East

Let's set the scene.

It's the fourth of July, U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are having the World's Largest Pizza Party (worthy of the Guinness Book of World Records) and they're all popping a cold beer in honor of our country's independence.

They'll be toasting to Pizzas 4 Patriots, Miller-Coors, delivery service DHL Worldwide and Uno's Chicago Grill.

Master Sergeant Mark Evans, founder of the not-for-profit group, is at it again in his effort to provide servicemen and women some of the comforts of home. This time on steroids.

"As a retired member of the military, I appreciate what it means to receive such a special care package like this," Evans said. "The reactions we have received from families, friends of the military, and the troops themselves about this initiative have been heartwarming."

Dubbed "Operation Pizza, " 28,000 deep-dish pizzas and 10,000 cases of beer (Miller-Coors got special permission) were loaded onto a 747-cargo Wednesday for special delivery to the Middle East.
