Metra Warns Lollapalooza-Goers Using Ventra App to Keep Phones Charged

If a rider's phone is dead, they'll have to buy a paper ticket home, Metra says

Commuters using the Ventra app should make sure they have enough juice to phone home, Metra announced Tuesday.

In a press release, Metra warned the app users that digital Metra tickets cannot be shared between phones. The commuter-rail agency further cautioned riders in the release saying if a phone is dead or a rider is unable to show the ticket on their screen, the passenger will have to buy a paper ticket from the train's conductor.

“We realize that everyone attending this event will be using their phones to take pictures, text and post on social media throughout the day, but if they are using their phone as their ticket too, they need to make sure that they have sufficient battery power for the ride home,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno.

Officials said there are charging stations at all five downtown Metra station and there are a small amount of outlets that will likely be insufficient for the anticipated crowds of Lollapalooza.

Lockers equipped with cell phone chargers will be available for rent at the festival, Metra said.

Metra offers an unlimited ride, four-day pass to Lollapalooza from July 28-31 for $20 both at ticket windows and on the Ventra app.
