Man Drives Himself to Hospital After Being Shot on Eisenhower Expressway

A man was shot while driving on the Eisenhower Expressway early Friday near the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

He showed up at Stroger Hospital about 1:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg and told investigators the shooting happened on the Kostner exit ramp from westbound Interstate 290, according to Illinois State Police. His injury wasn’t thought to be life-threatening.

Troopers canvassed the exit for shell casings but weren’t able to find evidence. No one was in custody, and the man had left the hospital by 4:30 a.m., state police said.

It was at least the 42nd shooting on a Chicago expressway so far this year, according to Sun-Times data. There were 39 expressway shootings in 2015.
