Man Charged in $48,000 Cocaine Bust

Police Find Narcotics, Weapons During Search

Bond was set Tuesday for a Matteson man charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after police seized a little over a pound of cocaine at his home.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home of Lamondra Townsend, 40, and conducted the search May 26 after weeks of surveillance.

Police entered after there was no response at the front door and seized the drugs, many of which were in plain view. The net value of the drugs collected is approximately $48,000.

The police also found two semi-automatic pistols and ammunition, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said in a statement.

Police located Townsend, who owns a towing company in Chicago Heights, in the basement of the home and placed him under arrest without incident.

Townsend's bond was set at $75,000. He will appear in court June 17.
