Man Charged with Stealing Semi in Hit-and-Run that Injured Cyclist

A Chicago man has been charged with stealing a semi-truck that injured a cyclist in a hit-and-run. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

According to a police statement, Jason Popko, 31, is charged with two felony counts for possession of a stolen vehicle and failure to report an accident involving an injury.

The incident happened on Oct. 7 in the McKinley Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Popko struck a cyclist and then fled the scene, leaving the cyclist in critical condition, police said.

Popko's bond hearing was Saturday.

It was not immediately clear if Popko already had an attorney.
