A 26-year-old man was shot to death in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood late Friday, police said.

At about 10:10 p.m., officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 7900 block of South Aberdeen found the man lying on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds to the chest, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

He was dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The man was identified as Brian Pridgeon by members of St. Sabina Church. The community is offering a $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Fr. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Church, said the victim's older brother works for him. The shooting happened just a few blocks from the church.
