Lake Shore Drive was a bike rider's dream Sunday morning.

Eight lanes and 15 miles of car-free highway became a playground for about 20,000 bicyclists during the annual "Bike the Drive."

"It's awe-inspiring. Lake Shore Drive, which is usually a noisy highway packed with cars, became a peaceful oasis with family and friends biking, relaxing and having fun," Rob Sadowsky, executive director of the Active Transportation Alliance, said in a statement.

From 5:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., vehicles were booted off the lakefront road so bikers could enjoy quiet ride on one of Chicago's most beautiful roadways.

The event ended with a party in Grant Park with music, give-aways and pancakes courtesy of Goose Island.
