Officials Investigate “Suspicious” Harvey Fire

Fire investigators are looking into a suspicious fire that broke out in an abandoned home in south suburban Harvey early Tuesday morning.

Crews were called to the scene at 149th and Wood just after midnight for a "fully-involved" blaze. The flames were put out by 2 a.m., according to Cpt.Steve Gorman with the Harvey Fire Department.

Gorman said the building was an abandoned home, but the cause remained under investigation after another suspicious fire was sparked at a home next door last week.

Fire officials said that home, in the 14900 block of South Wood, was being rehabbed at the time and the blaze was deemed suspicious.

Arson investigators said it wasn't clear if there is a link between Tuesday's fire and the one that broke out next door, but an investigation remained ongoing.
