Grateful Dead Fans Petition for More Shows

The petition, started about a month ago, has garnered more than 3,800 signatures

Grateful Dead fans say the band’s three farewell shows in Chicago aren’t enough to say goodbye and celebrate 50 years of music.

Following an “unimaginable” amount of mail order requests, and a system-crashing number of fans trying to get tickets on Ticketmaster, fans on the East and West coasts say they feel the Soldier Field Fourth of July weekend shows just won’t cut it.

In fact, some fans have started a petition on Change.org asking the band to perform two more three-night runs on the East and West coasts.

“As The ‘Core four’ have seen by the, unheard of, amount of mail order ticket requests received for Chicago, there is no shortage of fans that would pay to see a 50th anniversary show,” the page reads. “Many of us are unable to travel such a distance to attend the Chicago shows. And even if we were, there are simply not enough tickets available to make it happen. Please listen to your fans, and help us all celebrate 50 years of music, community, and lifestyle.”

The petition, started about a month ago, has garnered more than 3,800 signatures and is just shy of its 5,000 goal. A bulk of the signatures came over the weekend after thousands of Deadheads were unable to purchase tickets from the public sale on Ticketmaster.

Many signing the petition cited high scalping prices, travel concerns and the lack of ticket availability as reasons to add more shows. Others simply asked the band to "spread the love."
