Funeral Planned For Fallen Chicago Soldier

Michael Olivieri

The body of fallen soldier Pfc. Michael Olivieri, of Homer Glen, arrived home on Tuesday.

Olivieri, 26, was one of five Big Red One soldiers killed in an indirect base fire attack on June 6 in Iraq.

Also in the team were Spc. Emilio Campo, Pfc. Michael Cook, Pfc. Christopher Fishbeck and Spc. Robert Hartwick. The group deployed to Iraq in November 2010 in support of Operation New Dawn.

Olivieri joined the army in January 2010 and served as a field artillery tactical data systems operator.

Olivieri's funeral will be held Thursday at Modell Funeral Home, 12641 W 143rd St. in Homer Glen. His body will be buried at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elmwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Homer Township Public Library, 14320 W. 151st St., Homer Glen, in Michael’s name for a silent reading room.
